# MCP: Giving AI agents access to real-time events

The Model Context Protocol lets AI agents query live event streams. Here's how it works with Queuey.

AI agents are only as good as the context they have. Most agents today work with static data — a database snapshot, a document, a conversation history. But business decisions happen in real time.

## What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for giving AI models access to external tools and data sources. Think of it as a universal adapter between AI agents and your infrastructure.

## Why events matter for AI

Consider an AI agent handling customer support. Without real-time context, it might tell a customer "your order is processing" when it actually shipped 5 minutes ago. With access to live events, the agent knows exactly what's happening right now.

## How Queuey exposes events via MCP

Queuey implements MCP as a first-class delivery target. This means:

- **Event queries**: Agents can ask "what events happened for customer X in the last hour?"
- **Stream subscriptions**: Agents can subscribe to specific event types and react in real time
- **Context windows**: Agents get a sliding window of recent events, automatically managed by Queuey

## The architecture

Your services emit events to Queuey as they normally would. Queuey routes these events to multiple consumers — webhooks, APIs, and now MCP-compatible AI agents. The agent doesn't need direct database access. It gets exactly the events it needs, filtered and formatted.

## Getting started

If you're already using Queuey for event delivery, enabling MCP is a single configuration change. Add an MCP endpoint to your routing rules, and your AI agents instantly have access to your event streams.
